WELCOME TO CHESSMATES OTTAWA

ChessMates Ottawa is a vibrant, youth-led chess club based in Ottawa, Ontario. Founded by passionate young players, the club’s core mission is to make chess accessible, fun, and engaging for students across the region. What sets ChessMates Ottawa apart is that it is run entirely by high school students — from organizing events and teaching lessons to managing tournaments and community outreach.

The club welcomes players of all ages and skill levels, fostering an inclusive environment where beginners can learn the basics and experienced competitors can sharpen their strategies. In addition to regular practice sessions and coaching, ChessMates Ottawa hosts competitive tournaments and social events designed to unite the local chess community.

True to its community-focused spirit, ChessMates Ottawa also gives back: proceeds from tournaments are donated to local charities and youth programs, helping support causes beyond the chessboard. Through leadership, collaboration, and a shared love for the game, ChessMates Ottawa continues to inspire the next generation of chess players in the nation’s capital.

Since founded in 2023:

-Organized **17 chess events**

-Donated over **$10,000** to charity organizations and local youth teams

-Provided **free introductory chess lessons** to more than 120 students
